Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have been plagued with rumors predicting an impending split between the longtime pair, but Gwen says just because the photo on the cover of a tabloid shows the duo looking stormy doesn’t mean there’s trouble in paradise.

“It doesn’t matter — you could have a picture that has nothing to do with what’s going on in a rumor and they make it look like it’s part of the rumor,” the No Doubt rocker told Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent on the set of her new L’Oreal Paris Superior Preference hair color campaign commercial in Los Angeles on Monday.

The split rumors about Gwen, 42, and Gavin, 46, appear to be just that — rumors.

Just this past weekend the rock couple took their two sons, Kingston, 5, and Zuma, 3, fishing in Los Angeles and the parents shared a kiss caught on camera by paparazzi.

“Aw. That’s so cute,” Gwen said, when Tim showed her the heartwarming family photo. “Can I have that?”

“That’s the kind of picture you should have over your wall at home,” Tim said.

“That makes me so happy to look at that,” Gwen agreed.

While the singer/designer treasures family outings, she admitted fishing will not become a Stefani-Rossdale family pastime anytime soon.

“[Going fishing] was actually traumatizing,” she told Tim. “I don’t think we’ll be doing it again.”

“[Traumatizing] for the fish?” Tim asked.

“For everyone! It was just — I’d rather go to the grocery store. Sorry,” she said. “Both me and my husband were like, ‘What are we doing here right now?’”

Though having her family’s every move documented by pesky paparazzi can be trying, Gwen admitted the unwanted attention does come with a perk.

“What’s nice is even though they’re annoying, these guys that follow us around, it’s really nice having all these family photos!” she said, laughing.

Gwen Stefani has three clothing lines, she’s married (to rocker Gavin Rossdale), with two children, and in between, she’s recording a new album with her band, No Doubt, to be released next year.

So how does she do it all?

“I think lately, my new secret is just trying to delegate,” Gwen told Access Hollywood Correspondent Tim Vincent.

“I just make priorities of what’s important at the moment,” she continued. “Right now, the No Doubt record is everything for me.”

Gwen said she and her bandmates have a system for getting their album done.

“We do this thing where we work on it really hard, and then we take breaks, because everybody has so much going on,” she said. “That’s why it’s taking so long.

“Everybody asks, ‘Why is it taking so long?’ Because I have kids,” Gwen continued, with a laugh. “I’m a mom! I have school, I have homework. It’s a lot.”

Gwen’s Harajuku Mini line for Target is out now.

With her platinum blonde locks and pillarbox-red lips, singer-songwriter Gwen Stefani is one of Hollywood’s most influential style icons.

As a solo artist and as lead singer of band “No Doubt,” Stefani has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. But her influence stretches far beyond music.

Her innate sense of style and unbelievable power to start trends has created one of the most successful celebrity fashion labels — LAMB.

“For me it’s not that deep,” says Stefani. “For me the line is genuinely for myself. I want to make a line of clothes that I want to wear — it’s kind of selfish.”

Selfish or not, it’s the key to her brand’s success.

ince 2004, LAMB (Love Angel Music Baby) has created a line of clothing Stefani has not only had a hand in designing, but has been regularly seen wearing — the range epitomizing her “look” and her “personality.”

“I think fashion is more of a fun sort of thing,” Stefani says. “It’s an expression of yourself and your personality and your mood, it’s not something we take super deep.”

“I’m not going to ever be a Vivienne Westwood … ” she adds. “I’m trying to make clothes to wear everyday, that’s what LAMB is. It’s not a couture line.”

“What qualifies me? I don’t have qualifications really. I don’t have technical qualifications. I just have a vibe of what I like and I have strong opinions about what I like and what is me.”

Despite this lack of “technical qualifications,” Stefani has had a long love affair with fashion — designing many of her early stage outfits for performances with No Doubt.

“I just always liked getting dressed up and playing with make-up and hair,” says Stefani. “My mum and her mum and her mum, they all made clothes … every holiday we would go to TJY, a little fabric store, and look at patterns and pick out our outfits.”

“When I started with the band, when I was 17, I would waste all my time at school thinking about it (fashion) and drive to the fabric store and just find stuff.

“I didn’t know how to sew very well, it really was like using glue guns and velcro and just trying to make it work. I think it all came from the music really — just trying to find fun outfits for the stage.”

For Stefani, music and fashion have always been intertwined.

“Music is the fire, so I have to start there … always pull from the same inspiration every season, always from music,” she says.

“But singer or fashion designer, that’s tough because they go hand in hand.”

Ironically it was the thought of a declining music career which prompted Stefani to set up the fashion label.

“I started the line honestly because nine or 10 years ago I didn’t know how long I would be doing music.

“They ask you ‘What are you going to do in 10 years,’ and I didn’t know, I just though by then I want to have a family and I’m not going to be doing music but I wanted to do something creative.”

Seven years on and Stefani is still creating chart topping music and still has her finger on the creative pulse — creating her own style, be it in music or fashion.

“I think everyone has a style, style is just your personality. I don’t know if it’s better or worse, I think fashion is not that deep. It’s clothes, it’s just fun.”

Gwen Stefani has warned fans of No Doubt not to expect a new album for “a while” – because most of her band members are busy with new babies.

The group released its last studio album, Rock Steady, in 2001, and despite spending much of 2010 working on new tracks, the blonde beauty admits they aren’t nearing a finished project because of their other commitments.

Stefani is busy with her fashion line L.A.M.B. and guitarist Tom Dumont and bassist Tony Kanal have both recently fathered a child.

She tells the Wall Street Journal, “We’ve been doing a record all year; 10 songs have been recorded. When this (new fashion line) is done I’ll probably write a few more songs. I don’t know when it’ll come out, but you never know what can happen.”

“My band takes a weird process as well. It takes so long. And all of them just had babies, so it’ll be a while.”

Gwen said her show was comparable to six miniature fashion shows in one because of the variety of themes she presented. “The themes are things that I always draw from like the raggamuffin girl, and the English girl, the buffalo girl… things that I’m a fan of.”

When it comes to past fashion faux pas, Stefani says, “There is no fashion mistake, you’re always in the moment. You can’t look back and go, ‘Oh man, what was I thinking?’ That was me then, no regrets.’”

Finishing off my Fashion Week Q&A series with a rock star bang—literally—I have a very exciting guest for you all today, my worshiped friend, Gwen Stefani! Equal parts music and style icon, she draws inspiration from both as the designing mind of luxury brand, L.A.M.B. (an acronym for Love Angel Music Baby), a label that seamlessly represents her own flirty and fearless personal style. Now in its eighth year of production, I caught up with Gwen just before her F/W 11 show to get the inside scoop on her influences, design approach and what she is coveting for fall. Enjoy her answers below and check back into The Zoe Report next week for its regularly scheduled programming! xoRZ

RZ: You have been a prominent fashion and music icon for over fifteen years. How does music influence your personal style, both in your own wardrobe and L.A.M.B.?
GS: Music and fashion have always come from the same creative place inside of me. So if I’m really inspired by something musically, chances are that inspiration will also come up in what I’m wearing and in what I’m designing.

RZ: The world of L.A.M.B. is an umbrella, which encompasses apparel, accessories, footwear and all—how do you balance it all? Do you take on each area with the same design approach?
GS: There are certain common themes and inspirations that you see in most everything I do. There’s the juxtaposition of masculine and feminine and Hollywood glamour mixed with bold prints and Asian-inspired designs. I also have amazing teams that I collaborate with for each project, which makes it all possible. Collaborating is a big part of everything I do whether it’s music or fashion. I love the whole creative process in general and I always love to have an opinion so it makes a difference when you get to collaborate with great people.

RZ: I love the print perfect vibe of your is S/S 11 collection, what was your inspiration behind it?
GS: I always love prints but I also think they are really hard to do. But with the spring collection I really think we got it right. One of my favorite prints of the collection is the butterfly print, which was actually born out of a piece of fabric that was initially a mistake. Fashion is funny that way…inspiration and ideas can come from the most unexpected places sometimes.

RZ: You are never fully dressed without _____ .
GS: I’m prepping for my fall show right now and I can’t wait to wear the amazing fall jackets in a few months.

In fact, I’m a skeptic. Too often I feel people are expected to drop a couple hundred dollars just because X celebrity was good in Y sitcom, thus somehow making X’s design abilities top-notch. So, though a fan of Gwen Stefani’s music, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I entered the L.A.M.B. studio.

Gwen and I went straight to posing for the photos you see here, while discussing hair coloring, Heathers, and the time we’d previously met (it was supercool that Gwen remembered me a year later!). When the photographer suggested we look more active, Gwen would say things like, “Let me show you this purse!” in a sarcastic way that poked fun at how awkward it was to create the illusion of natural conversation through midsentence expressions. Even better was when she pointed to a botched sample bag and smiled for the camera, uttering through clenched teeth: “See these little dots? They make me want to punch someone.” Her dryly humorous but composed anger reminded me of her attitude in the video for No Doubt’s “Just a Girl.” This isn’t to say she wasn’t stoked about the collection, just smart enough to care about the conditions of her designs. Excited to show it to an outsider and receive feedback, she had stories behind each piece, many of which gave African-inspired fabrics a streetwear shape. A few of my favorite things (Gwen’s not the only one who can reference The Sound of Music!) included an optic bag, a butterfly-print dress, and deconstructed jeans.

In discussing how the brand came about, she said she didn’t want to name it after herself and that she hopes those who buy her clothes do so for the garments, not her celebrity. As Gwen showed me different ways she’d style a pair of what she nicknamed “jailbird pants,” an old video I’d seen on YouTube came to mind: Gwen is 22, pre-fame, and showing the camera a DIY “jailhouse dress.” That use of personal identity is what makes her designs not derive from tabloid appearances but act as a further reflection of her as an artist. Like her music, they embrace a side of her that is unabashedly unique, whether she executes it through kaleidoscope prints or by singing a friendly reminder: “It’s my life!”

Gwen Stefani will launch five more Harajuku Lovers fragrances, called Wicked Style, Nov. 1. This time around, G and the Harajuku Girls—Love, Lil Angel, Music, and Baby—are back in Tokyo on Takeshita-Dori, a pedestrian-only street where fashionable people go to chill, and are dressed in fashions that originated in Japan—gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, visual Kei, Kawaii, and Omotesandō girl. Gwen loves building a story for her Harajuku Girls perfumes as much as she enjoys creating perfume bottles that double as works of art. But what’s it like to create five fragrances at a time when it takes other celebrities years to create just one? A few other bloggers and I had the chance to chat with Gwen backstage at her L.A.M.B. spring 2011 fashion show, where she talked about the new Wicked Style fragrances, being a mom and designer, and her personal beauty choices.

Is it strange to work on five fragrances at once?

It’s really hard. I think perfume, in general, is really quite challenging. It’s so abstract. And you like something right away, but then you wear it and you’re like, “Oh my god, it’s bugging me!” I think doing five at once is even worse, especially knowing you have the personality of each girl that you’re trying to fit in the perfume and make it as true as possible to the personality of each name of the fragrance. So, yeah, it’s crazy. But it’s super fun. And it’s also the greed in me. I love being able to say, “Oh my God, I’ve got five new perfumes!” And they all kind of work together. They’re all about being sweet and happy … I think they turned out really good this time.

How do you decide which Harajuku fragrance to wear, now that you have so many collections?

With everything, it seems like I always get into one thing and then I wear that until I burn out. And then I’ll go to the next. Like one day, I’m like, “Oh my god, I love this.” And then the next day, I’m like, “Why am I only wearing this one?” I’ll discover a new one and then I’ll be into that one. That’s always how it is with everything.

Has having two kids changed the way you design clothes and fragrance?

I think it definitely affects my designing when I’m pregnant, for sure, because everything looks really tiny. I’m like, “Oh my god, no, it really needs to be bigger! It’s too tight.”

Fragrance for sure, as well, because your sense of smell is ruined when you’re pregnant and it makes you want to puke when you’re trying to smell these fragrances. I can’t even wear perfume when I’m pregnant.

With the designing, I really wanted to start L.A.M.B. because I knew I wanted to have a family and wanted to be able to do something that I could do at home and feel creative and have a creative outlet, but have my kids around. They’re there the whole time and they get a little annoyed when I’m having my meetings. But I like to be able to work and be with the kids at the same time. It was a plan I had a long time ago, and now I’m actually living it, so it’s kind of surreal and sad at the same time that all that time has gone by and here we are. I have a five-year-old, no he’s four, thank God. But yeah, it’s going fast, but that’s the whole reason I started L.A.M.B. I knew that one day, hopefully, I’d have them.

What was your favorite fragrance growing up, and what memories are associated with it?

I didn’t wear a lot. My mom really didn’t wear a lot of perfume. She had Chantilly sitting on the toilet, or something. I can remember things like going to Save-On and wanting to get Tickle deodorant or Love’s Baby Soft, you know that kind of thing. But then I was really into those Rasta oils and things like that. And then when I started working at the makeup counter, that’s when I started discovering fragrance. At that time, it was all about Opium and Obsession, all those fragrances from the early ‘90s, I guess. So that’s kind of my journey. And to be able to do my own fragrance was … I just never thought I’d do it. I always thought, “Why would I have some fragrance named after me? That’s silly. Why do people do that?” But then when I had L.A.M.B. it all kind of made sense. Kind of the reward of having a clothing line is having that fragrance. People had asked me for years to do things like that, and I was always like, “Well, I’m in a band. Why would I do that?” It didn’t ever click to me, but now being able to do a line and have a fragrance and have clothes, it’s all part of the layers of what you wear and it makes more sense. And I really enjoy doing it.

You obviously have a great design aesthetic; tell us a little about the perfume bottle design.

I really love that part of it. We developed a lot of things, as well, that never really came out, so you know how that goes. And I really enjoy that process; it’s kind of a shame when that doesn’t actually happen. But [for] the first L.A.M.B. bottle I just had the idea to sum up everything that I love, and the Rasta colors and they had just made that new logo in gold, and it really was just right where I was at at the time. To me, that bottle was so hot. I loved it. And these ones … I remember meeting with Coty the first time, saying that if I did Harajuku, it would have to be the girls. I think it was Avon, back in the day, who did those bottles we were inspired by. It was from when I was a little girl, they used to have something similar, but not as cool. It was a very vague memory, and I was like, “It would be so cool if the bottles were like that.” I never thought that they would really do it. It’s such a big thing and I never thought they’d turn out so good as they did. And actually the big ones we had in the ad campaign, I have at my house, and I’m installing them. They look like Japanese art! They were really expensive.

You have a very signature look, the hair, the lips. If you had to pick one thing, what would you stick with?

That’s really hard. I don’t think I’ll be blond for the rest of my life. I don’t know maybe I will be. I can’t think any further ahead than after the show. You know, I don’t always wear red lipstick. Because people think they see me everyday, but they don’t. I change it up, but my husband really likes the red. So I probably have to keep the red because I want to keep the marriage.

Gwen Stefani takes inspiration from her husband’s clothes when designing for her fashion label.

The singer’s collections for L.A.M.B. have been a critical and commercial success, and she loves coming up with ideas for new lines. Gwen is married to musician Gavin Rossdale, who she has two kids with. She loves his rock’n’roll sense of style, and says his look often makes it into her collections.

“We just do our own thing, and it always seems to work. He has such great style,” she told The July issue of British magazine InStyle. “I get ideas from a lot of his clothes for the women’s clothing line because I like that kind of mixture. I use a lot of stuff in his closet. I’ll be like, ‘Ooh, we should do a girl version of this!’”

Gavin also impacts another area of Gwen’s life. She is renowned for her polished appearance and dedication to make-up, and has revealed she always wears red lipstick because that is what Gavin likes.

“I wear it all the time. I wear pink, I wear gloss, I wear everything, but my husband prefers when I wear red. I want him to like me still!” she explained. “I remember the first time I wore dark red lipstick. I was maybe 18, and I can remember the moment I put it on — in my Honda Prelude that I bought for like, $3,000 — and looking in the mirror going, ‘Good, I like that.’ Never again did I stop wearing it.”

Beauty Insider: Gwen Stefani
The star reflects on her trademark style and reveals what makeup she can’t live without

Fresh off a No Doubt reunion tour and the spring show of her fashion line, L.A.M.B., Gwen Stefani touched down in New York recently to introduce the latest iteration of her Harajuku Girls fragrance franchise (this time, the fab five are reimagined as tanned, bikiniclad Sunshine Cuties). An inspiring blend of superstar and supermom, Stefani was in full regalia—sharp brows, pink-painted lips, gobs of gold jewelry—while Zuma, her faux-hawked one-year-old (“my bunny,” Gwen cooed), attempted a sweet escape from her lap.

Fans love that your look wasn’t dreamed up by some music exec. It’s authentic.
No Doubt was together for nine years before we even got on the radio, and I’ve looked pretty much the same since the beginning. In one of the first interviews I ever did, I’m sitting on the floor, gluing together this jailbird costume—basically the same one I wore two years ago in the “Sweet Escape” video. I still use the same references: old Hollywood– Marilyn, chola girls, Anaheim girls, English schoolgirls, and Japanese Harajuku.

You seem to have an abiding love affair with Japan.
Whatever trend is happening there, it’s everywhere—like, oh my God, lots of zippers! I look at millions of Japanese magazines, and my design associate goes there on inspiration trips. I’ll be in bed at 11 p.m. and she’s sending me pictures: “Want this $350 fleece motorcycle jacket for [son] Kingston?” I’m like, “Yes, he definitely needs a $350 motorcycle jacket—not.”

Was the makeup at your spring runway show inspired by your own look?
I’ve basically done the same makeup since ninth grade: eyeliner, a strong brow, not much eye shadow, and red lips. For the show, we did the big, thick liner I’ve always done, but in pop colors: red, blue, and
yellow. I thought it was going to look tough, but under the lights, it was soft, pretty.

What’s the secret to doing your own makeup on tour?
Sweatproofing. I don’t know how many calories I must burn every night. I’m dying up there! You can get waterproof stuff at the beauty supply, but it’s mainly about layering. And double lashes: I stick two rows of false lashes together. Luckily on this tour, I had a little break to go backstage and re-spackle.

Do you ever leave the house without makeup?
I’m not in full-on makeup every day, but my husband and I just had our seventh anniversary—he makes an effort for me, I make an effort for him. It doesn’t take me very long. I’m fast!

Well, you have professional experience, right?
When I was 20, I worked in a department store—basically a mature women’s shop with, like, polyester slacks. The clothes were horrible, but I really enjoyed helping women pick outfits. Later, I graduated
to be one of the stuck-up girls at the makeup counter, which was a big deal. I never thought I’d get there [laughs]. I got to smell all the fragrances and be with all the pretty girls and intimidate everybody. Well, I didn’t, but they did.

Where are you headed next?
Back into the studio for a new No Doubt album…I hope. I’ve had writer’s block for a while, maybe because I was too homebound. How was I supposed to be modern when I was sitting there with this postpregnancy body, in the house, banging my head against the wall? On tour, I freed that all up and got inspired.
